1st September 2009 – Krakow – marking the 70th anniversary of the commencement of WW2


The World Orchestra for Peace is about to play live concert in Poland to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the beginning of Word War II. It’s brought by City of Krakow and the Polish Ministry of Culture. The concerts starts 7pm and will be broadcasted live on polish TV2 and. Anyone based in Krakow is invited to enjoy it on giant screens in the centre of Krakow. It will also be streamed live by CNN.com on their website.

The Orchestra, as we can read on its official website, is “an expression of harmony on all levels. It was founded in 1995 by Sir Georg Solti to reaffirm, in his words, ‘the unique strength of music as an ambassador for peace’. Its players come from orchestras all over the world, many of them concert masters and section leaders in their own right, and the orchestra has no existence outside the very special occasions that call it into being.”

Programme for this concert will be:

Krzysztof Penderecki ‘Prelude for Peace’ (WOP commission, world premiere)
Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 5 in C# minor
