wirzynek - best restaurant in KrakowProbably the best restaurant in Krakow, certainly the most prestigious. Opened in 1945 and continuously serving quality food since. Offers nice view on Sukiennice and St. Mary Basilica, but most of all it’s traditional polish dishes. Amongst them Marinated pork sirloins in wild mushroom sauce, Old-Polish sour soup with smoked bacon, goose breast fillet, not mentioning set of exciting desserts. Prices start with around 70 PLN for two dishes meal. It’s not cheap, but quality simply justifies it.

According to historians in 1364 a well-known merchant, Mikolaj Wierzynek, was the host of a feast in honour of the European emperors and kings invited to Krakow by the Polish King Kasimir the Great. They met to celebrate the wedding of Kasimir the Great’s granddaughter - Elisabeth of Pommerania with Charles IV, The Holy Roman Emperor. It is believed that the Kings of Denmark, Cyprus, and Hungary received the gold plates on which they had eaten in order to commemorate this event.

The house changed it’s ownership many times since the Feast but it’s significant that today’s restaurant is located right where it happened, thus the name to commemorate it.
