Dominican Church

Dominican Church in KrakowMonumental Dominican Church (pl. Kosciol Dominikanow), located in the very nectre of Krakow, right next to the Main Market Square, was the site of the original wooden church of the Krakow burghers, dedicated to the Holy Trinity and erected in place of the former pagan temple. The basilica with a nave and two aisles was erected in the 13th century. Rest of the church was build in 15th century and rebuild in 1850 after a fire ravaged the interior, and there couple of more times. Being there have a look at the bronze artworks made by Wit Stwosz, and a copy of the tombstone of Leszek Czarny, Duke of Krakow and image of Our Lady of the Rosary.

These days Dominican Church is known as a place where Krakow’s students meet for 7 o’clock masses. It’s a place where you can hear a good not-dogmatic lecture and meet friendly people. In the past you could attend a mass conducted by such great priests as Jozef Tischner. So – if you’re openminded and catholic and student you’re likely to be interested in this place. Otherwise just admire the architecture – it’s definitely worth visiting.
