The Barbican is a fortified outpost, one of few remaining relics of the complex fortifications encircling the city of Krakow. It was build around 1498 right at the end of Florianska Street. It’s cylindrical in shape, has 3 meter thick walls and inner courtyard. It is the largest and best preserved building of its kind in Europe. These days it is a tourist attraction and a location for concerts and theatres. For couple of years it’s been nicely illuminated. Definitely one of the most distinctive buildings of Krakow and it’s landmark.
